Feast Day: September 7
Patron: of Aosta, Italy, and
vineyards; invoked against insects, against dangerous animals, against
fire, against hail, against lightning, against rain, and against storms
Birth: unknown
Death: 470 A.D.
Life: St. Gratus was bishop
of Aosta from 450 to 470. Not much is known about him, but he almost certainly
participated in the synod of Milan of 451 A.D., which discussed the doctrine of
the Incarnation of Christ. The name “Gratus” has Latin origins and means “thankful.”
